April Art Scene

I got out quite a bit in April which was pretty fun! I’m working on a lot of little projects right now but once I wrap up those, I’m hoping to get out more for openings and shows.

I finished up a piece to participate in another group show curated by my friend Trixie at a local brewery. This month’s theme was Humor, Fun, and Silliness. The interpretations of the theme were really fun. I especially loved this one piece that was like little clay critters all smooshed into the frame. I went to two Sketchparties, one at the Whistlestop and one at the Natural History Museum. it was my first time going to the Natural History Museum one and it was super fun. I went with my sister-in-law, Gabby, who is a great artist and we drew some of the taxidermied birds. Randall, who runs Sketchparty, told me that you can check out specimens if you are a member of the museum. Something worth looking into. It was actually really cool to wander around the displays and since this Sketchparty had an earlier start time, it was easy to get to.

I think the coolest thing I did all month was host my first ever SoulCollage® workshop at Revision Workspace in La Mesa. Joy, the director of Revision, has been immensely supportive of me as an artist and I’m so grateful that I got to do my first workshop there. It was a really fun, synergistic time and all my participants had good feedback and said that they loved it. I’m going to be hosting more workshops all throughout the summer so this was just the beginning of my amazing journey. It seems like there’s really a need and an interest in SoulCollage® and I’m so excited to fulfill that need.

A light month of getting out in the art world of San Diego but there will be much more fun to come in May.
